Fire !! Fire !!!!

I cannot remember when this happened. It happened in the
pre-school that i was working in.

While all the children were playing during the free play time,
suddenly one of my colleagues, Putti smelled something.
She quickly checked around and discovered some smokes
were coming out from the air conditioner attached
on theceiling. She quickly shouted to make everyone alert. In
just a few seconds, the smoke turned into black think smoke and
it smelled bad. Every staffs quickly evacuated all the children and
meet at emergency assembly point.

While everyone was busy evacuating the children, suddenly i noticed
two little children (aged 3 years old) were still sitting at the
drawing table while other children had left the building.
Wow!!!! without any hesitation, i dashed to "save"
them. They were still playing when i grabbed them. Oh no!!!
i yelled at them and thank God that they stopped playing and
three of us managed to leave the building safely.... wow!!!!

The firemen came and they identified that it was due to short
circuit in the air conditioner. The owner of the building was
also there to check the building's condition. The children
were temporarily placed at the St.Mary Primary School's
art room while their parents were informed to collect their
children earlier.

I truly experienced how great is a teacher's responsibilty
and love when it come to deal with emergency. At that point of
time, what you care about are the children / students. At the
point of time, what you think about are the students that you
love and you want them to be saved. No wonder, the teachers
sacrificed their lifes to save the students in the Sze-Chuan
earthquake.

Vivian Road Pre-School Graduation Day

Date: 16th July 2009
Venue: Vivian Road Pre-School

After one year, the school terms has come to an end. Again, it's time
for the children who will be going to "big school" (primary school)
to have their graduation. The children in UK will have their Summer

Holiday in July every year and start their new school year in September.

There were 18 graduants this year and lots of parents came to witness
the important event of their children.

The parents arrived at about 10am and they were welcomed by
the children. Then, the parents sat down to watch their children
play in various stations for about 15 minutes. I was in charge of
computer station, so i have to set up the games and guide the
children while they were playing. After that, the children gathered
for song performance. Children from different groups performed
songs which they have learnt. The parents were also encouraged
to join the children in singing...... haha......
After the performances, Sheila read them a story which was
about a dinasour who wanted to look for volcano. After the story,
Sheila (the Science Whizz) did an experiment about volcano.
It was a successful experiment !!!!

After sitting for so long, the children got a chance to stand up for
physical. All the staffs were also required to dance and hop with
the children in front of the parents. It was so embarassing !!!!!
It was followed by a break time after the physical. The children
were served with drinks and biscuits. After the break, it was time
for the children to receive their graduation certificate.........
The Graduation day ended with a farewell song sang by all the children.

Again, due to the Child Protection Law in UK, i'm not able to
post to many photos which will expose the children's faces.

Every staff has their own "label"......mine was
"Computer Whizz". Normally i am the one who
in charge in everything related to computer.

My farewell at Vivian Road Pre-School

Date: 14th July 2009
Venue: Vivian Road Pre-School

It was very kind of the staffs in Vivian Road Pre-School to
prepapre a lot of farewell gifts for me. My manager also
gave me a appreciation card with lots of encouragements
and words of appreciation. Besides, Dee (one of my colleagues)
also helped the children to compile all the pictures that
they have drawn into a booklet. I was so touched on that day
and i nearly shed tears on the spot but i managed to control.

I will truly miss some of the children as the friendship that
we shared were so strong for the past 1 1/2 years.
I remembered two of the children told their parents that
i was not their teacher but their friend. It meant so much
to me as i was able to approach them as a friend.

Due to the child protection law in the UK, i am not able to
post more photos here as it will expose some of the children's
face.

Get together lunch with manager & colleagues

Date: 10th July 2009
Venue: The New Inn

After working in Pre-School, I went for lunch with my manager and
all my colleagues at a pub just opposite the Pre-School. At first,
i did not plan to have anything and just wanted to be present
there as it was a staff get together lunch. However, i felt very
akward if i'm the only person who did not have any food or drinks.
So, i orderd a spicy seafood jacket potato & coke.

Oohhh... What i can say is i did not enjoy the food at all......
I felt very sick after i ate the jacket potato. It was stated in the menu
that it's SPICY seafood but what i got was just some thousand island
sauce with some creamy creamy sauce....

CIEH Level 2 Award in Conflict Resolution and Personal Safety

Date: 10th June 2009
Venue: Eaton Hotel, Hagley Road

My manager was poorly and was not able to attend the course. So,
i was requested to attend the course on behalf of her.....Well, i don't mind
actually to attend the course.....BUT.... i only realized that there was
an exam at the end of the course when i reached there....
i felt so nervous....

We had 30 multiple choice questions and we had to get at least 21
to pass..... i nearly fainted when i got the exam questions.....
most of my questions were related to personal safety but that instructor
did not cover much on this topic due to lack of time...... Oooh no....
i prayed before i answered the questions......Praise the Lord that
although i did not really have confidence that i will pass, i actually
got 26 correct out of 30 questions..... Praise the Lord.......

3rd Birmingham Early Years Music Conference

Date: 20th March 2009
Venue: Botanical Garden, Birmingham

I was very grateful as i was given an opportunity to attend the 3rd
Birmingham Early Years Music Conference.

I attended 2 great workshops led by great workshop leaders
1) I can't sing..... but i love it by Trish Keelan
2) Moves & Groves by Madeline Norris & Ruth Jacombs
I learnt a lot of new songs and new movement activities to engage
the children. Hopefully i can implement in the pre-school and
for my children in the future.

Best part of the day.... lunch...
I was supposed to fast and pray for D-camp today
at lunch time... but i just forgot....So, i did it at dinner
time.... Sorry ya... D-camp's committee..... hehe

Performance during lunch hour

Ms.Lee or Mrs.Ho

I were talking to two of the children in the Kids club. They asked me
What my surname is... i told them that i'm Miss Lee or they could
call me Mrs.Ho. They wanted to look at Nelson's photo, so i showed
them the picture that i have in my purse.

Suddenly, one of the child told me that her parents has just
divorced. She told me a lot of things about the parents and
she seemed so calm when she talked about that. This made
me felt heart broken.

Then, before she finished, another girl jumped into the
conversation and told me that her parents actually are
not married. I was hit by another surprise!!
Oh... i was speechless at that time. I'm not sure
what actually happened to this society..... i heard a lot of
things about this country and i can't accept some of the
values that they have................ Pray that God will work in
this country....This country used to be a place with lots of
strong Christians...... Pray that God will heal this nations.

Child protection training

Date: 23rd February 2009
Venue: Eaton Hotel, Hagley Road

I attended a Child Protection Training at Eaton Hotel. I think it's quite a
"posh" training because we had it in hotel where coffee, tea and biscuit
were served. I was so surprised that the lunch was served too....

I prepared my own sandwiches the night before as lunch was not
provided for previous training course, and i have to starve and get a
bus and travel about 15 minutes to the other town just to get a
sandwiches... jia lat!!!!

Through this training, i understood more about child protection. Child
protection is not a troublesome matter, it is a MUST.......

very touched when we looked at that card. Molly actually drew the
picture of all teachers. She did it in great detail.

According to Molly, the one with black straight hair, red glasses and
red shoe (recently i've bought a pair of red shoes and i wear it to
school everyday) is me..............She has good observation.
